Yeah Nah Wine ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Yeah Nah Wine mobile application (the "App").
We believe in minimal data collection. The App works entirely on your device without any account. If you choose to sign in — to sync your ratings across devices or recover them after changing phones — we collect the minimum data needed to provide that service.
2. What Data We Collect
Camera Access
The App requires camera access to scan wine barcodes and photograph wine labels. Images are processed locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers or stored permanently.
Wine Ratings
Your wine ratings and scan history are stored locally on your device. If you sign in, your ratings are also synced to our servers so they can be restored on other devices.
Account Data (Optional — Sign In Only)
If you choose to sign in, we collect:
Sign in with Apple (iOS):
- An anonymised Apple user identifier
- Your email address (which Apple may relay or mask)
- Your display name (if provided to the App)
Sign in with Google (Android):
- Your Google account email address
- Your display name
This data is used solely to identify your account and sync your ratings. We do not use it for marketing or sell it to third parties.
Device Identifier
When you first use the App, an anonymous device identifier is generated. This allows ratings made before sign-in to be migrated to your account when you sign in.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Location data
- Contacts or address book
- Browsing history outside the App
- Payment information
- Photos or media library (label photos are captured in-app only)
3. How We Use Your Data
The data we collect is used solely for:
- Providing barcode scanning and label photo functionality
- Storing your wine rating history locally on your device
- Displaying your past ratings when you scan a wine again
- Syncing your ratings across devices when you are signed in
- Allowing you to restore your ratings after changing devices
We do not use your data for:
- Advertising or marketing
- Selling to third parties
- Building user profiles beyond what is needed for the service
- Analytics or tracking
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties.
Community Ratings
When you rate a wine, an anonymous aggregate of ratings (verdict counts only) is used to display community statistics. No personal data, email address, or account identifier is included in community statistics.
Sign In Providers
When you sign in with Apple or Google, your device communicates with Apple or Google to verify your identity. We receive only the minimum data described in section 2 above. Please refer to Apple's and Google's own privacy policies for details of their data practices.
Service Providers
We engage trusted third-party providers to host the App's backend infrastructure. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose data if required by law or in response to valid legal process (e.g., subpoena, court order).
5. Data Retention
Your wine ratings and scan history are retained on your device indefinitely, or until you delete the App or delete individual ratings within the App.
If you are signed in: Your ratings are stored on our servers for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account in the App, or by contacting us. Upon account deletion, all associated data is permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days, except where we are required to retain data by law.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: You can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction: You can request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: You can delete your account directly in the App, or request deletion here.
- Portability: You can request your data in a machine-readable format.

7. Children's Privacy
The App is rated for users 17 and over due to references to alcohol. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 17 years of age. If you are under 17, please do not use the App or provide any information to us.
If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 17, we will take steps to delete that data.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors.
When we make changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Post the updated policy on this website
- If changes are material, notify you via the App or by email (if you have an account)
Your continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
